I heard whispers that Walmart sells 8" heart cakes for $25!! Great for the MEGA store... However, I as a cottage baker will continue to sell my 8" cakes which are three layers and made with QUALITY ingredients at a starting price of $185 PERIOD! If that price doesn't fit your budget then by all means go elsewhere! My cakes are exiquisite and I will not compete with a mega store or brick and mortar bakery prices. Why you say, because my overhead is not and cannot match theirs. As a business you know the value of the products you sell and the importance of ROI. You can choose where to spend your money and what you want to spend it on and I will NOT be offended if I'm not your choice. Hey, let's keep it 100, everyone can't afford to shop at Saks, Bergdorf or Neiman Marcus and so they go and shop in their financial lanes.
I have worked for a major organic food market and I've worked for brick and mortar bakeries and their prices are based on volume meaning quantity not quality! Let me mention this too...
those pictures showing burn away heart cakes for $25 is cap. Everything extra is added to the final cost. I know because I worked in the industry for over 10+ years and the price reflects all the components used to create the cake. The finished product is BEAUTIFUL and that's because it was made by amazing cake decorators that LOVE their craft. They are absolutely not paid their worth... do the math. If they make ten heart cakes per shift @$25 each ($250) how much of that do you think goes towards their salary? I'll wait... this is the time for them to perfect their craft, working at these places and that's exactly what they are doing. At least that's what I did... I practiced and got better and started my own business. Unfortunately, everyone isn't built to be a boss, it's easier for them to get a steady paycheck and not be responsible for running a business. It's not for everyone, but the pay reflects that when you are talented and work for a mega store. They will NEVER get paid their worth. All those ppl getting $25 heart cakes from walmart need to TIP the cake decorators at least $10 or more. Just ask who the cake decorator is when you pick up and hand them an envelope PERIOD! The design and style is what you call going above and beyond and that's exactly what they are doing! There is no way you would get a cake that beautiful that dirt cheap! Ya'll know damn well that that's the bargain of the year! I'm not mad at ya'll either stretch your money and I will continue to do me and make mines... PEACE!!
