Aren't you tired??...

abuycustomcakes

I consider what I do as creating edible art... I have to create something from nothing. I literally was given the persons business logo and this was the final design I came up with and the client loved it! The business wasn't the focus but the colors were and it was a birthday cake. I believe that this was simple and elegant... I had a few days to get the concept and make the cake. I really didn't know what I was gonna do when I accepted the order and that happens more times than not.

I love I mean LOVE what I do... what about you? I have always been told to work hard, keep my head down, be a team player and follow the rules and I'll go far in life... I finally figured out 30 years later that that was a lie! The rules were made to keep us in check and by us I mean ALL of us that work for others. When you work for someone you're told to abide by certain rules and that when hired your job description is abc, however, you learn that you are also required to do xyz too! These things change at a whim too... except your pay or salary. I was and am not OK with that... never was even when I worked for someone.

I remember being hired at a business as a cake decorator. We were often given sutle hints that sometimes we are required to pitch in if needed. Since I was a professionally skilled employee and never directly told that I would be required to do this during the actual interview, I didn't think this applied to me. The bakery dept. only had one pastry chef and three cake decorators. Usually, when the pastry chef was off or called out the floaters or frontend employees would do those task.

One day the Bakery manager said that the cake decorator position was being modified to cake decorator/pastry chef (here they go with that bullshit). We're all chefs I can bake/make batches of anything in any commercial kitchen, however, I applied and accepted the CAKE DECORATOR position. Those days I did cakes, time didn't matter I would work till the very last minute of my shift... no problem. The days I did pastry was the longest days ever and I tried to enjoy it but being bullied to do something I didn't sign up for didn't sit well with me! I deliberately took my time and never (even though I could of) kept up with the pastry chefs task timeline. I would lollygag and drag each and every task out... I knew my manager was frustrated but so was I. The funniest part of this story is the pastry chef couldn't decorate cakes...ctfu!

I left shortly after this bc I refused to be used. These big businesses follow the original plan get the most for the least. Meaning they will drain all the resources out of each and every employee they can without giving extra pay to the employee. They would often tell us don't discuss salary at work... why not? It's my business and if I want to tell someone how much I make it's my perogative. The real reason is that if you talk ppl who don't get paid what they should or fairly will find out. Men are definitely paid more than women doing the SAME job.

Also, that nonsense about giving two weeks notice before you leave is BULLSHIT. IDC where you work they can fire you at anytime for NO REASON at all. That two week bullshit is to cover their asses while they find your replacement. I remember giving two weeks notice to a business and they told me that I can leave the next week and had me train their new hire (bc NO ONE can replace me!). I was cool with it... bc that gave me a reset week to prepare for the new job! What they thought was that I'll miss that other check... nah boy I stay ready!

If you're tired of dealing with bullshit...try to find ways to make a living doing what you love or at least enjoy. You may have to take a pay cut but it depends on what you value... sanity, peace of mind, mental health, family or money? If what you do for a living is not giving you quality time to LIVE... then what are you doing? What is the end goal? Work yourself to death? Use your sick days, vacation days and stop that no days off bullshit... that's counter productive to overall health. Aren't you tired of being sick and tired? Let's talk about it...
